Cycling

East Suffolk is a wonderful place to tour by bike, as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with many of Suffolk’s coastal towns situated along National Cycling networks, it offers year round cycling.

If you are looking for inspiration for your next cycle ride have a look at the following websites:

  • Suffolk On Board - free cycling routes in Suffolk
  • Cycling UK - guide to cycling routes, events, clubs and advice in Suffolk
  • Explore the Coast & Heaths AONB - downloadable routes in Suffolk
  • Sustrans – custodians of the National cycle Network and good guides on cycling

Love to Ride

Cycling is a great way to maintain your mental and physical health. Check out the Ride Healthy website if you are new to riding or want to promote cycling in your area.

If you are a key worker and/or cannot work from home, cycling frees up space on public transport for those who can't ride, incorporates exercise into your day, is very low cost and good for the environment. We've got lots of support to help you ride, including the Urban Cycling Skills webinar (register to find out about future webinars) and the Ride Healthy website.

During the first lockdown there was a 300% increase in cycling in some places in the UK. Many people reported finding quieter roads much more enjoyable to ride on.

East Suffolk Cycling and Walking Strategy

The environments in which we live, work and play have an impact on our ability and desire to cycle and walk. That’s why we’ve created the East Suffolk Cycling and Walking Strategy, which identifies cycling and walking infrastructure improvements across East Suffolk with the aim of creating safe, coherent, direct, comfortable, and attractive cycling, walking and wheeling environments.
